What is Alopecia Areata?
Alopecia areata is a type of immune disease which appears as different types of baldness and is seen in both males and females. It can also happen in any age but occurs more often in children and young adults. Its pattern of baldness can be seen as small round patches to scary, chronic and extensive hair loss that can involve any hair from the body or from the scalp.
Androgenetic Alopecia
Though androgenetic alopecia in men is what is known as male - pattern baldness, women can have that too but it might have been caused by a polycystic ovarian syndrome. There are also several misconceptions about this syndrome and it is better to list the facts down here.
- This is a genetic type of syndrome; it can come from your parents. It is a genetically - linked hair thinning.
- Menstruation is not a factor in this type of syndrome. This can happen usually in ages 12 to 40.
- The hormonal evaluation is only needed if the woman in question is experiencing some irregular periods, infertility, hirsutism, cystic acne, virlization or glactrorrhea. The syndrome itself does not cause menstrual issues or would interfere with pregnancy or endocrine function.
- You can have normal hair care because it will not affect hair loss. The only drug that is approved for promoting hair growth though for women is Minoxidil.
